Privacy Policy
RowBeat has no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. Almost everything it knows stays on your iPhone.

The short version. RowBeat does not ask who you are and has no way to find out. There is no sign-up, no account and no user profile. Your rowing data never leaves your phone. The only thing the app sends to our servers is a list of standard recording codes for songs, so it can look up their tempo. Nothing that identifies you, and nothing tied to you.
Who we are
RowBeat is an iPhone app that builds Apple Music playlists matched to your rowing stroke rate. This policy explains what the app does with information, and it describes the app as it is actually built. Questions are welcome at support@rowbeatapp.com.
We do not require an account
There is no registration, no login, no password and no profile. RowBeat never asks for your name, email address, date of birth, gender, weight, height or any other personal detail. Because we never collect an identifier for you, we have no way to connect any piece of information to you as a person.
Playing music requires an active Apple Music subscription. You authorize that on your device through Apple's own system prompt. RowBeat receives permission to control playback, but it never sees your Apple Account, your password or your payment details, and it does not store any Apple Music sign-in token.
What stays on your iPhone
The following is saved in the app's private storage on your device. It is not transmitted anywhere, and we cannot see it.

Your rowing data
When you connect a Concept2 rowing machine, RowBeat reads live figures from the monitor, including elapsed time, distance, stroke rate and 500 m splits, and shows them on screen during your workout. This data is never transmitted off your phone and is never written to our servers. It is displayed while you row and is not retained as a workout history.
What is sent to our servers
RowBeat needs to know the tempo of a song to match it to your stroke rate. To do that, the app sends our server a list of ISRCs, or International Standard Recording Codes, the public identifier the music industry assigns to a recording. An ISRC identifies a piece of music. It says nothing about the person requesting it.
That request contains the recording codes and nothing else. It carries no account, no device identifier, no advertising identifier and no name. Our application does not log IP addresses: its request log records only the method and path of a request and the status code returned. Our hosting provider, like any web host, may keep its own short-lived network logs for operational and security purposes, which we do not use to build any profile.
Our shared tempo database stores exactly five things per recording: the ISRC, its tempo, its energy value, a flag noting whether the music analysis service had data for it, and the date we last checked. There is no column for a person, a device or a session, because there is no such information to put in one. The database is shared by all users and makes playlist building faster for everyone.
Other services involved
Apple Music
Searching the catalog and playing songs happens through Apple. Your use of Apple Music is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one. Apple, not RowBeat, holds your subscription and listening history.
ReccoBeats
Tempo data comes from ReccoBeats, a music analysis service. Requests reach it from our server, never from your phone, and contain only recording codes. Because your device never contacts ReccoBeats directly, ReccoBeats does not receive your IP address or anything about your device.
Bluetooth
RowBeat uses Bluetooth for one purpose: to talk to a Concept2 PM5 rowing monitor and read the numbers it displays. It is not used for location, proximity beacons, advertising or tracking of any kind, and the app does not scan for or record any device other than the rowing machine you choose to connect.
The app can keep that connection alive while your phone is locked, so your metrics keep updating mid-piece with the screen off. Scanning only ever starts when you tap to scan, and stops on its own shortly afterwards.
What RowBeat does not do
- No analytics or usage-tracking software of any kind is built into the app.
- No third-party advertising, ad networks or advertising identifiers.
- No crash-reporting or session-recording services.
- No tracking of you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell, rent or share personal information, because we do not hold any.
- No access to your photos, contacts, microphone, camera or location.
Your choices and rights
You can revoke Apple Music access at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Media & Apple Music, and Bluetooth access under Settings › Privacy & Security › Bluetooth. Disconnecting your rowing machine in the app removes the saved machine immediately.
Deleting RowBeat removes everything the app has stored on your device. Nothing about you remains on our side, because nothing about you was ever stored there. That also means there is no personal data for us to look up, export or delete on request. If you have a question about this, write to support@rowbeatapp.com and we will answer it.
Children
RowBeat is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If the app's handling of data changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
